‘’TAIEX’’ Experts to visit the Research Center
The Delegation comprised of the EU experts, representatives of the Italian Agricultural Research and Economic Council, Eligio Malusà and Petra Engel met with the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Yuri Nozadze and Deputy Director of Scientific Research Center of Agriculture, Nodar Khatiashvili. The two sides discussed prospects for deepening further cooperation between the EU countries.
It is noteworthy to mention that, under the frame of the Association Agreement signed between Georgia and the European Union, Georgia has taken an obligation to produce certified and healthy seed and planting material. Accordingly, the above mentioned project is very important in terms of implementing certification system in the country - Yuri Nozadze said.
Under the ‘’TAIEX’’ -Technical Assistance and Information Exchange instrument implemented by the European Commission, the experts aiming to provide an assistance to the representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, National Food Agency, Scientific Research Center of Agriculture and nurseries conducted a seminar " introducing seed certification system in Georgia’’, where the participants addressed issues related to the certification procedures, standards, categories, variety registration, field inspection, labeling, data collecting etc.
Moreover, since 2017 the Scientific Research Center of Agriculture has carried out a voluntary certification process in Georgia.
