Otar Shamugia: " Considering the current situation in the region, our task is to coordinate our efforts with the representatives of the wine industry and identify areas, which are in urgent need of state support"

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mr. Otar Shamugia held a meeting with the wine and spirits producers to discuss the current needs and challenges facing the wine sector.


In the light of the current situation in the region, our task is to coordinate our efforts with the representatives of the wine industry and identify areas, which are in urgent need of state support. 

In recent years, we have been actively working to diversify export markets for Georgian wine, it should be mentioned, that we have already achieved certain results in the respective area.

The state has its obligation and responsibility to promote the development of the agricultural sector and support the expansion of the export markets for Georgian products, although, active participation of the private sector and entrepreneurs in the aforementioned area is of the utmost importance "- said Mr. Otar Shamugia.

As stated by the Minister, it is important to protect the interests of all parties involved in the wine industry through coordinated efforts of the state and the business sector and make the best endeavors to ensure, that the industry will remain stable, especially, in the light of the current challenges.
Subsequently, the parties agreed, that the working group meetings will be continued next week to discuss current challenges facing the wine sector, come up with solutions and bring specific proposals to support the expansion of the export market. The types of state support, different areas, and future plans will be also highlighted at the meetings next week.
