Otar Shamugia met with the bread and bakery products manufacturers

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Mr. Otar Shamugia and the First Deputy Minister Mr. George Khanishvili met with the top manufacturers of bread and bakery products to discuss issues related to the current wheat flour stocks and uninterrupted supply of bread to the consumer market.


"It is important to note, that there are enough stocks to ensure uninterrupted supplies of bread in the country. Each manufacturer actively works with the importers and they have long-term contracts. The consumer market is adequately supplied with bread products in the country, the mills are running smoothly and we will not have any disruptions in this area "- said Mr. George Khanishvili.

During the meeting, the producers of bread and bakery products stressed, that there is a constant supply of flour in the bakeries and there are sufficient stocks of wheat and flour for 14-20 days, which ensures a stable and uninterrupted supply of bread in the market.


As stated by Mr. Malkhaz Dolidze, Chairman of Bakery Products Association, there was a delay in wheat and flour import at the Lars customs checkpoint due to heavy snow, although this problem has been solved today.

"Lars checkpoint has already resumed its imports of cargo, therefore, there is no problem in replenishing wheat and flour supplies in the country. I would like to reassure our citizens, that bread production and delivery will be uninterrupted in the country.

Large. manufacturers are provided with flour stocks. We are providing the Ministry with the information about current supplies” said Malkhaz Dolidze.

As mentioned at the meeting, the flour mills in Georgia ensure compliance of their stocks with the standards set by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
There is a stable and long-term food supplies in the country. It should be noted, that due to unfavorable weather conditions, the restrictions have already been lifted in the Lars checkpoint, and the import of flour and wheat are being carried out smoothly.
