In 2022, manufacturers of the products subject to Extended Producer Responsibility will bear responsibilities for waste management.

Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili held a meeting with the manufacturers of the products.
 
The timelines for the implementation of four technical regulations adopted by the Government of Georgia for the implementation of the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) principles have been discussed at the meeting, which was organized by the Environmental Information and Education Center.
 In 2022, certain obligations will be imposed on manufacturers of products subject to the Extended Producer Responsibility.
The manufacturers must be registered in the EPR electronic register, they should be a member of the EPR organization and make a commitment to further manage the waste of the products they import.
"The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture is actively working to create and implement a modern waste management system. In cooperation with the European Union, the Law of Georgia "Waste Management Code" was developed and approved, which ensures the gradual introduction of modern approaches and technologies of waste management in the country. "The introduction of the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) principle provided by the Waste Management Code is one of the main models of waste management," said Mr. Pavliashvili.

During the meeting, Alverd Chankseliani, Head of the Waste and Chemicals Management Department of the Ministry, emphasized the importance of deadlines for the implementation of the technical regulations on the Extended Producer Responsibility and noted, that the implementation of four technical regulations is an important challenge at this stage, for which, the Ministry has taken a number of steps, taking into account the positions, comments, and suggestions of the manufacturers. 
 
Irma Gurguliani, Deputy Head of the Waste and Chemicals Management Department of the Ministry, introduced the EPR electronic register to the producers. The manufacturer of the product subject to EPR is obliged to register in the electronic register before placing the product on the market.

The Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mr. Irakli Nadareishvili and about 80 representatives of the Business Association and the private sector attended the meeting.
It should be mentioned, that on May 25, 2020, the Government of Georgia adopted four technical regulations for the implementation of the EPR:
Technical Regulation on Management of Waste Batteries and Accumulators 
Technical Regulation on Management of Waste Tires 
Technical Regulation on Management of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment 
Technical Regulation on Management of Waste Oils
