Otar Shamugia got acquainted with the repair activities in Chaladidi drainage massif , in Khobi municipality

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Otar Shamugia together with the representative of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region Giorgi Guguchia and the General Director of ‘’Georgian Amelioration’’ LTD Tengiz Nasaridze got familiar with the ongoing repair activities in the Chaladidi drainage massif in Khobi Municipality.

The water collecting canals ( length of 4.2 km ) are being cleared from trees and sediments in the village of Chaladidi. The cleaning activities were carried out to ensure the smooth flow of water through the collector canal, as a result, there will be no danger of flooding up to 1050 hectares of agricultural land areas and homesteads.

"The development of irrigation infrastructure is one of the most crucial issues to support the production of agricultural products in the country. The state and donor organizations spent about USD 500 million in this area over the past few years.
We inspected the repair works of drainage systems in Khobi Municipality. As a result of large-scale work to rehabilitate the drainage system in western Georgia, it will be possible to put the large land areas into economic turnover and use them to produce agricultural products" said Mr. Otar Shamugia, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.

It should be mentioned, that 47 irrigation infrastructure rehabilitation projects have been implemented in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region since 2012. The total cost of the works is GEL 11 million. As a result of the implemented works, more than 22 thousand hectares of land area can be used for agricultural purposes in the region.
