Nino Tandilashvili submitted a report on the Law on ‘’Water Resources Management’’ in the Parliament of Georgia

The Working Group on the Cooperation with Business Sector on Natural Resources Management at the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee held a meeting regarding the legislative package on water resources management.

The meeting was held with the support of the USAID Economic Governance Program.

The report on the Draft Law on ‘’Water Resources Management’’ and the related package of legislative changes was presented by Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.

"The Law on Water Resources Management will establish the basin management in the country, moreover, river basin management plans will be drawn up, aiming to improve water quality to the greatest degree possible.

The law envisages the state to determine the priorities for water use, providing the population with drinking water and sanitation. The law also envisages the introduction of a water usage permit system, ”said Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili.

The working meeting was attended by members of the relevant parliamentary committees, representatives of government agencies, businesses, and the non-governmental sector.

The Legislative Package on ‘’Water Resources Management’’ is a package containing the most important and complex legislative changes. Within the frame of the commitments taken under the EU-Georgia Association Agreement, the Legislative Package establishes a unified, modern system of water resources management based on international approaches, which will comply with the EU Water Framework Directives.
