Otar Shamugia: "Every year, the State Laboratory of Agriculture introduces new test methods in line with internationally recognized standards and norms."

"In recent years, 150 standards have been updated and 98 new ones have been introduced at the laboratory. It is planned to obtain a reference status for the LEPL State Laboratory of Agriculture, that will verify and fine-tune the disputed case studies. In addition, the laboratory will monitor other operating laboratories within the country to introduce new test methods and conduct professional testings,"- said the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Otar Shamugia, while addressing the Members of the Parliament of Georgia.

At the State Laboratory of Agriculture, tests on all quality indicators of honey, including the basic safety parameters, are available that are considered and based on the relevant regulations.

As the Minister noted in his speech, it is very important for the country to provide an opportunity to the entrepreneurs to receive reliable, valid test results on the spot that are required for export.

Honey is the first product of animal origin allowed to be exported from Georgia to the European market.
It is noteworthy that the construction of new laboratories in Tbilisi and Kutaisi is planned in 2022-2025 in order to strengthen the field of food safety.
