Otar Shamugia: "Approximation process of legislative acts with EU acquis is ongoing in accordance with the Plan”

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mr. Otar Shamugia addressed the Parliament within the format of "Minister’s Hour", summarizing present results in the field of food safety, veterinary and plant protection and spoke about current and planned measures.

The Minister focused on fulfillment of obligations under the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (DCFTA) concluded with the European Union and noted, that this process is underway constantly. Since 2015, up to 150 legal acts have been harmonized with EU legislation in the field of food safety, veterinary and plant protection.

"The implementation of modern food safety standards is top priority, which ensures increase of competitiveness and export potential of Georgian products on EU and other markets. As a result of the steps taken in recent years, we have tangible results in all three directions. Approximation process of legislative acts with EU acquis is ongoing in accordance with the Plan. To protect consumers’ interests, new regulations and modern safety standards are being implemented in production. At the same time, with the support of partner and donor organizations, capacity of National Food Agency has grown significantly, which has facilitated maximum access to the Agency services in regions," – said Mr. Otar Shamugia during his speech.
