Special importance is attached to the efficient use of water resources in the face of climate change

"Over the years, the deregulation of water resources management has caused significant problems, as a result, the monitoring system of the water quantity and quality was disrupted, furthermore, ‘’chaotic’’-irrational use of water, the abolition of standards and the lack of proper infrastructure has worsened the quality of surface water in Georgian rivers.

"Irrational use of water resources poses a risk of depletion of water resources in the long run and endangers access to water," - said the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Otar Shamugia, while making a speech at the Parliament, under the frame of the ‘’Minister’s Hour".

According to the Minister, through the support of the European Union, fundamental reform has been launched in the water resources management field to eliminate the existing problems. By the European directives, in active cooperation with the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, a draft law of Georgia on Water Resources Management was prepared and is currently being discussed in the Parliament of Georgia.
