Levan Davitashvili: "In 2-3 years, we will scale up an early warning system across Georgia"

The heavy rainfall, confinement of the sediment between the banks of the streams and melting glaciers in river Nenskra in village Chuberi, Zemo Svaneti region caused an increased landslide processes, water flows in the riverbed areas and mudflows in the separate areas of the river. Due to the increase of the river water level, the banks of the river have been wiped out.

The Prime Minister of Georgia, Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, local authorities visited natural disaster zone to get familiar with the effects of the disaster. Specialists of the National Environmental Agency, Fire-Rescue team and Roads Department are mobilized in the village Chuberi.

"In 2-3 years, we will scale up an early warning system across Georgia"- Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili said. The Minister, along with the Prime Minister, Mamuka Bakhtadze pays a visit to the disaster zone in Samegrelo Zemo-Svaneti region.

"It is important to have an early warning system in the rivers like Nenskra, the relevant agency of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture takes strict measures in this route.  We will receive necessary an information by means of these systems and we will take further preventive measures "- said Levan Davitashvili.

The specialists of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture took a flight by helicopter in the disaster area and viewed the source - headwaters of the river Nenskra.

At this stage, the level of risk is reduced; There are no concessions in the separate areas of the river. In this end, the major natural disasters are not predicted in the near future.

The continuous monitoring of the ongoing processes is undertaken by the specialists of the National Environmental Agency.
