Solomon Pavliashvili attended the Earth Day event in the village of Argokhi

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili participated in the Earth Day event held in the village of Argokhi, Kakheti region.

"Up to 200 countries have been joining the Global Earth Day campaign for more than 50 years, and Georgia is no exception in this respect. The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture is actively working to raise public awareness of the environmental challenges,
 
Such as climate change and its consequences, waste management, ambient air protection, sustainable management of forest and land resources, etc. I am glad, that we have active, young participants- eco-activists, who share news, modern knowledge and disseminate information to the community, and who are excellent examples for our society "- said Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili.
 
The Earth Day event included a planting campaign, and an exhibition of posters on climate change, furthermore,  participants had an opportunity to get acquainted with the activities taken by local and young eco-activists and members of the women’s cooperative.


The meeting was attended by Mr. Irakli Shioshvili, State Representative in Kakheti Region, Mr. Alex Pitskhelauri, Mayor of Akhmeta Municipality, and Mrs. Nana Janashia, Executive Director of CENN, representatives of international organizations, non-governmental and private sector and young people.

Earth Day has been celebrated annually on April 22 since 1970., and is one of the largest environmental events all over the world. This year's theme for Earth Day is "Investing in Our Planet" with a focus on combating climate change.
