George Khanishvili attends the 11th Session of Georgia-Kazakhstan Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation

Mr. George Khanishvili, the First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture attended the 11th sitting of the Georgia-Kazakhstan Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation.

 

During the meeting, the members of the commission discussed the current situation in the field of agriculture, tourism, transport and communications, information technology and innovation, and also, the development of cooperation between the two countries.

"Trade relations between Georgia and Kazakhstan are characterized by a growing trend. It is important to find ways to make Kazakh wheat competitive in the Georgian market and increase its imports. Moreover, we have prospects for cooperation in the export of citrus, tea, tobacco and other products to Kazakhstan. The Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, to support the promotion of trade relations, increase investment and develop tourism between Georgia and Kazakhstan is crucial, as it will bring benefits to both countries," said Mr George Khanishvili. 

In recent decades, Kazakhstan has been one of Georgia's most important trade and economic partners. In January-March 2022, the trade turnover between the countries amounted to USD 29.46 million (an increase of 123%).

 

At the same time, in 2021, Kazakhstan invested USD 11.02 million in Georgia. According to the data for the first quarter of 2022, 123 operating companies putting and using Kazakh capital are registered in Georgia.

 

The 11th sitting of the Georgia-Kazakhstan Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation was opened by the Vice Prime Minister of Georgia, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development M. Levan Davitashvili and the Head of the Kazakh Delegation, Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development, Mr Kairbek Uskenbaev.

The Georgia-Kazakhstan Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation is one of the important forms and mechanisms for the development of trade, economic and transport relations between the two countries. Within the commission, a number of important issues are discussed and decisions made by parties.
