World Veterinary Day is celebrated on April 30

Under the framework of the events dedicated to World Veterinary Day, the National Food Agency presented a report on the programs and activities implemented in the field of animal health to the representatives of the non-governmental sector and donor organizations.

 
The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Mr Solomon Pavliashvili attended the meeting at the National Food Agency. In his speech, the Deputy stressed the importance of the veterinary field and set focus on the existing challenges.


"Firstly, I would like to congratulate all veterinarians on their professional day and wish them success. Each of them, in their daily activities, makes an important contribution to the provision of animal health, development of the agricultural sector and achievement of a global goal, such as food safety.
 
The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, together with the National Food Agency, are actively working in the educational and legislative fields, and taking concrete steps to popularize the vocational professions and training of qualified personnel, "Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili said at the event.

The veterinarians of the National Food Agency conduct more than 6 million veterinary manipulations every year, including free vaccination, identification-registration, diagnosis and prevention of animal diseases, and inspection of facilities, which are under veterinary control.

 It was mentioned, that measures were taken by the agency help to reduce the spread of animal diseases, the production and placement of safe, harmless food of animal origin on the market, the protection of consumer life and health, traceability, prevention of economic losses, development of the livestock sector.

It is worth mentioning, that as a result of the epizootic well-being in the country, local production of animal products and export potential is increasing.

World Veterinary Day was initiated by the World Veterinary Association (WVA) and the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) in 2000 and is celebrated annually on the last Saturday in April. This year, the main message of the World Veterinary Day is “Strengthening Veterinary Resilience”.
