Solomon Pavliashvili delivers an opening remarks at the wrap-up meeting on “Amendments to the National Waste Management Strategy 2016-2030 and the Draft National Waste Management Action Plan 2022-2026”

During the wrap-up meeting on “Amendments to the National Waste Management Strategy 2016-2030 and the Draft National Waste Management Action Plan 2022-2026”, the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili delivered opening remarks.

 

The Deputy Minister expressed his gratitude to the donor and partner organizations for their involvement and financial support in the project development process and spoke at length about the importance of waste management for the country.

"As we are all aware, effective waste management is crucial for the development of the green economy. Measures taken in the respective area show the progress made by the country in the environmental protection field" - said Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili.

"We are delighted that we had the opportunity to participate in the development of the National Waste Management Strategy and Action Plan. Waste management is an important challenge for Georgia.  As a result of the successful, joint work, we were able to develop a waste management guidance document for the country. I hope that the implementation process will be effective as well," said Mr. Alexander Darras, Team Leader at the EU Delegation in Georgia.

The National Waste Management Strategy for 2016-2030, entailing, the development and implementation of waste management legislation in compliance with the EU requirements and international conventions, aims to introduce the waste prevention and recycling practices in Georgia.

 

It should be mentioned, that the Draft Amendments to the National Waste Management Strategy 2016-2030 and the National Waste Management Action Plan 2022-2026 were developed with the financial support of the EU4Environment and the participation of the Regional Environmental Centre for the Caucasus (REC Caucasus) and the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP).

The Heads of the relevant service of the Ministry and stakeholders attended the meeting.
