George Khanishvili: " Hazelnut quality and quantity expected to increase in August"

Mr. George Khanishvili, the First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, together with Zurab Chekurashvili, Head of the National Food Agency visited Guria and Samegrelo regions. 

During the meetings with the state representatives of the regions and Mayors of the municipalities, high-rank officials of the Ministry discussed the current situation and challenges facing the hazelnut sector, they held meetings with the hazelnut growers and inspected the hazelnut orchards as well.


"The systemic approach undertaken jointly by the Ministry, the National Food Agency and the Hazelnut Growers Association through the engagement of farmers have been successful. Together we stimulate the increase in hazelnut production and we daily see farmers taking care of hazelnut orchards following the recommendations, which is a prerequisite for getting a high-quality and abundant harvest," - said Mr. George Khanishvili.

Mr. Khanishvili and Zurab Chekurashvili inspected the new drying and warehousing centres which are under construction in Guria and Samegrelo regions, furthermore, the centres will provide primary processing, sorting, drying, laboratory analysis and storage of hazelnut crops.
