Six agricultural cooperatives participating in the state program "Georgian Tea" were provided with the modern agricultural equipment

Mr. George Khanishvili, the First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture accompanied by Mr. Zviad Shalamberidze, State Representative in the Imereti Region attended the process of handing over the equipment to the agricultural cooperatives.

 

 “We have transferred the equipment to six agricultural cooperatives operating in Imereti, Guria and Samegrelo regions, which will enable them to process high-quality tea grown in their agricultural land plots. Moreover, they will reduce the cost of tea and will provide service to the plantations across the cooperative on the one hand, and on the other hand will ensure the production of high-quality, premium tea to both Georgian market and export it to the International market as well” said the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. George Khanishvili.

According to the State Representative in the Imereti Region, Zviad Shalamberidze, Imereti region has a tradition of growing / producing tea; The state agricultural programs provide important support for all cooperatives and farmers , who wish to get engaged in the farming practices and create wealth from agriculture.
Under the program "Georgian Tea", six agricultural cooperatives operating in Imereti and Guria regions were provided with the modern equipment for tea production in Zestaponi municipality; State co-financing amounts to GEL. 329,460. 

 

Under the program, the agricultural equipment worth of 643,000  urgent for tea production were handed over to 14 agricultural cooperatives, furthermore,the area rehabilitated under the program ‘’Georgian Tea’’ includes  1,670 hectares across the country, with the co-financing from the Rural Development Agency exceeding GEL 3 million.

 

The program ‘’ Georgian Tea’’ has been implemented since 2016. The respective program aims to effectively use the potential of tea plantations in Georgia, promote the growth of local tea production, increase the level of self-sufficiency and export potential of tea production.
