Announcing winners of the competition "Green Award 2022"

The winners of the "Green Award" competition of the Environmental Information and Education Centre” were announced within the framework of World Environment Day.

Nona Margoshvili, the teacher from the Kindergarten N1 in the village of Duisi, Akhmeta Municipality won the "Green Award - Preschool Environmental Education 2022’’ and Marine Porchkhidze, an English teacher at Revaz Mumladze Public School N7 at the village of Kldeeti in Zestaponi Municipality was honored with the prize "Green Award - Environmental and Agrarian Education at School 2022" on the World Environment Day.
The awards were handed over by the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Otar Shamugia.

"It is very important to take care of our society, and increase the awareness and education of our next generation in the environmental protection field. We are implementing several important projects in the respective area;

The competition "Green Award" is one of the aforementioned events. As part of the competition, we identified the winner teachers. I would like to take this opportunity and thank each of them for their participation in the respective project. I would like to congratulate them on their achievement and wish them success in their day-to-day activities, to educate our next generation and provide them with relevant knowledge " Mr. Otar Shamugia said.


The Green Award competition established in 2018 by Environmental Information and Education Centre aims to identify and encourage educators who actively use the following textbooks the ‘’Preschool Environmental Education’’ and ‘’Environmental and Agrarian Education at School’’ in the educational process and take care for the promotion of environmental and agrarian education of children. The textbooks are being successfully adopted throughout the country.

"We get the proper result from the initiatives and projects through active involvement of our motivated teachers and educators. Otherwise it is impossible to achieve the goal. We hope, that more teachers will be interested in this important field in the future, and will get engaged in the learning process and the competition as well. The Ministry, in turn, will pay attention to the activities of teachers and educators" said Mrs. Tamar Aladashvili, Drector of the Environmental Information and Education Center.
The First Deputy Minister of Education and Science Tamar Makharashvili and invited guests attended the award ceremony.

During the event, the winners and the selected participants of the competition commission were awarded special prizes.

The list of supporters of the competition "Green Award" is comprised of the National Center for Teacher Professional Development, Nursery school and kindergarten Management Agency, Tbilisi Zoo Educational Center, Regional Environmental Center for the Caucasus (REC Caucasus), CENN, Ecovision, Society for Nature Conservation "Sabuko", ‘’Keep Georgia Tidy’’. Also, private companies: Med Diagnostics, Delphos Group, Silknet, Lutecia, Pharmadepo, which promote environmental awareness and education within their social responsibility
The "Green Award 2022’’ hosted the participants from all over Georgia. The award ceremony was held on World Environment Day, June 5. World Environment Day was established in 1972 by the United Nations General Assembly.

As part of the celebration of World Environment Day, the TV tower and the area around the Metekhi Bridge were illuminated in green.
In 2022, World Environment Day focused on living in harmony with nature with the slogan Only One Earth.
