Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture hosted the further working meeting on the implementation of environmental obligations set by the legislation of Georgia in the field of ambient air protection.

 The meeting was attended by representatives of cement enterprises.

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Otar Shamugia stated that the obligations set by the legislation must be fulfilled and the Ministry will continue conducting continuous monitoring for effective implementation of the respective regulations.

 

The sides held a thorough discussion on the installation of continuous monitoring systems for air emissions in the enterprises. The conversation touched upon the challenges faced by the enterprises in the implementation of the requirements set under the regulation.

 

It was mentioned, that each entrepreneur will present a specific schedule in the near future, also, the time will be determined for the installation of self-monitoring systems into the enterprises.

 

Since  June 1, 2021, under the legislative amendment, large industrial enterprises have been instructed to introduce the continuous automatic self-monitoring system for air emissions and provide relevant information to the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture. With the legislative change, the penalties have been significantly increased for not-having or not-using the air-tightening system and violation of environmental requirements, also as excess emissions from industrial facilities.

 

The sectoral meetings on the fulfilment of environmental obligations under the legislation on ambient air protection are planned to be held in the future as well.
