Otar Shamugia gets familiar with the results of the current rehabilitation activities taken on irrigation facilities in Kvemo Kartli region

Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Mr. Otar Shamugia visited Marneuli municipality. The Minister, together with the State Representative of Kvemo Kartli Mr. Giorgi Dokhturishvili got acquainted with the results of the ongoing works taken on irrigation facilities and held a meeting with the local residents.

As a result of the large-scale restoration activities carried out by the Georgian Amelioration Ltd., the irrigation system was put into operation in the village of Shaumiani after a 30-year pause. The residents of Shaumiani and Khikhani villages will use irrigation water for the first time in three decades.

"Restoration/rehabilitation of irrigation infrastructure is crucial. We carry out large-scale projects in this area, thus enabling farmers to produce quality, high-value products. We have completely restored the irrigation infrastructure in Marneuli Municipality, for which several million GEL has been invested. For the first time in 30 years, we have ensured water supply to residents. More than a thousand hectares will be provided with water, "Mr. Shamugia said.

The Minister noted, that due to landslides triggered by heavy rainfall in the village of Partskhisi, the rehabilitation of the damaged pipeline is actively carried out and water supply will be restored in the Tbilisi-Kumisi irrigation system in the near future.

"We inspected the ongoing works in Tetritskaro municipality. Due to landslides, the pipeline is significantly damaged. The Amelioration company carries out large-scale works on its own. We are making our best efforts to repair the system at the earliest possible time - equipment and manpower are also mobilized. We have created all conditions to supply residents with the irrigation water as soon as possible" said the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.

Georgian Amelioration LTD carries out intensive restoration works considering the recommendation of geologists. This irrigation system provides water supply to approximately 3500 hectares of agricultural land in 17 villages in the Kvemo Kartli region.
