George Khanishvili delivers opening remarks at the conference "From Farm to Consumer".

The First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. George Khanishvili delivered opening remarks at the conference "From Farm to Consumer".


The conference aimed to deepen connections between the persons engaged in the agri-food production chain system in Georgia and to discuss challenges and export-import opportunities in the country, entailing access to local and export markets.

Mr. Khanishvili spoke at length about the importance of developing the agricultural value chain, he also provided information on state programs promoting agricultural development.

According to the First Deputy Minister, the targeted policy pursued by the state has contributed to the sustainable food security in various areas of the country, he also added, that support for agricultural production would be crucial in the future as well.


"We have practically started developing agricultural production in the country from scratch. As you are all aware, this is the most hazardous field. Maximizing, targeting, and making the most of the full potential of Georgia's agriculture is crucial for the country's economy and food security.


I would like to thank the donor organizations for their support providing over the years, and for their financial assistance. I believe, that with the proper policy and coordinated cooperation, we will be able to maintain the growth trend of production "- said Mr. George Khanishvili.


"USAID has been taking measures for the development of agriculture in the country since the declaration of independence of Georgia, and I think there are visible achievements in this regard. Currently, our goal is to help farmers, and cooperatives in communicating and connecting with the network marketing and, consequently, finding new target markets, which in turn serves the development of the sector," said Mrs. Marika Olson, Economic Growth Office Director, USAID/Georgia


The conference was organized by the USAID Agriculture Program, TBC Bank, Retail Association, and Adjara Group, and attended by the agri-food producers, network market leaders, industry associations, and stakeholders.
