Solomon Pavliashvili attends the event “Children’s Rights and the Environment”

Grigol Robakidze University hosted the event on the Draft general comment No. 26 of the UN Committee on ''Children’s Rights and the Environment''.

The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili, who provided students with information on environmentally stainable development goals, with a special focus on global challenges.

 

" Arousing interest in the younger generation in environmental protection issues is crucial to achieving sustainable development goals. Hence, the participation of our future generation in the conferences dedicated to the protection of children's rights and the environment is of the utmost importance. We hope, that many students will continue their environmental education, as far as, our country needs many professionals to achieve the goal set in the respective area - said Mr. Pavliashvili.

 

States Parties shall undertake all appropriate legislative, administrative, and other measures for the implementation of the rights recognized in the Convention on the Rights of the Child to overcome global environmental challenges and create a healthy environment for children. Moreover, special attention should be paid to the problems caused by climate change.

 

Mr. Mikiko Ōtani, Chair of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, Mr.Philippe Corey, Deputy Regional Director for the UN International Children's Fund, Europe and Central Asia, Mrs. Sopho Kiladze, Member of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC), Mr. Merab Turava, President of the Constitutional Court of Georgia attended the event.
