Agricultural cooperatives organized a Co-op Market in Meidani Square
The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Giorgi Khanishvili visited the exhibition-selling "Co-op Market" dedicated to the International Day of Cooperatives, where Agricultural cooperatives presented their production. Giorgi Khanishvili together with the Chairman of the Agricultural Cooperative Development Agency, Giorgi Misheladze congratulated farmers with the International Day of Cooperatives. More than 20 agricultural cooperatives from various regions of Georgia have been participating in the event.
Georgian farmers’ cooperatives have presented their honey, wine, tea, churchkhela, dried fruit, fruit and cheese. With the support of the Tbilisi City Hall, the Agricultural Cooperatives Development Agency has organized an event.
Support for agricultural cooperatives has started in Georgia since 2013. A number of state programs have been developed for the promotion of cooperatives of different sectors for the development of small farmers' unions and cooperatives.
More than 1200 cooperatives are currently registered in various agricultural fields producing different agricultural produce across Georgia. Agricultural cooperation aims to introduce modern technologies and standards to increase agro food production and to consequently contribute to the strengthening of rural livelihoods in the country.
