George Khanishvili meets hazelnut growers

Mr. George Khanishvili, the First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, together with the Head of the National Food Agency, Mr. Zurab Chekurashvili held a meeting with the hazelnut growers in the Samegrelo region.

 
Mr.  Khanishvili visited the gardens of the members of the Hazelnut Producers Association in the village of Ingiri, where he was provided with detailed information about the implemented measures.


"It is crucial to take advantage of warm, dry weather and start treatment activities to eliminate the problem created by incessant rains. Recommendations are issued by the Consulting Centers, National Food Agency and Hazelnut Producers Association.
 
I believe, that respective advice, regarding three treatment activities, including the treatment against the Asian stink bug will help us to maintain a quality harvest, as well as export potential", said Mr. Khanishvili.
The farmers noted, that despite the difficulties caused by the bad weather, treatment activities are already resumed according to the scheme determined by agricultural specialists, agro-consultants are also involved in the aforementioned process, providing consultations to farmers;

 
Pest control equipment is available and transferred by the National Food Agency to the Hazelnut Producers Association.

Mr. Khanishvili held a meeting with Giorgi Guguchia, State Representative of Samegrelo Region, and representatives of local municipalities. During the meeting, the officials discussed existing challenges and measures to fight the Brown Marmorated Stink Bugs.

According to the Head of the National Food Agency, Mr. Zurab Chekurashvili, the Agency is taking all measures to reduce the number of pests to a minimum. The importance of the involvement of local self-governments in the communication process with the local population was emphasized during the meeting.
