George Khanishvili gets familiar with the current measures for the fight against the Asian Stink Bug in the Imereti region

The First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. George Khanishvili met with Mr. Zviad Shalamberidze, representative of the Imereti district and other representatives of the municipality.

During the meeting, the participants discussed current agricultural practices in the Imereti region. The officials highlighted issues, regarding preventive agricultural practices, and climate-induced risks in preventing and treating invasive pests, including Asian Stink Bug and diseases of plants.

Mr. Khanishvili emphasized the importance of the coordinated work of all government agencies and the active involvement of farmers in the fight against invasive pests and pest diseases.

"The state is actively taking measures to fight against the Asian Stink Bug. Each farmer should make his/her best efforts to get a high-quality harvest, they should take farming practices on their land plots by using the agricultural calendar ", said Mr. George Khanishvili.

Mr. Shalamberidze, the head of the coordination management center for the fight against the Asian Stink Bug informed the representatives of the municipalities about the implemented and planned measures against the invasive pest in the region. 

Currently, treatment against the Brown Marmorated Stink Bugs is taken on 14 thousand hectares of land areas in Western Georgia.
