Solomon Pavliashvili participates in the fourth plenary session of the project ‘’Circular Economy Mapping in Georgia’’

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili participated in the fourth plenary session of the project " Circular Economy Mapping in Georgia ‘’


The methodology and approaches applied to assess the level of circularity in the country's economy, the main stages of the assessment, key findings and recommendations for increasing the circularity level have been discussed by parties during the meeting. The major portion of the Circularity Mapping Report for Georgia has already been prepared and a draft document will be available shortly.


The members of the coordination council discussed the vision, purpose and perspectives of the circular economy in Georgia.

"We are working on a circular economy strategy. We have discussed the production, consumption, waste management, reuse, investments and innovation-related issues during the working process. The circular economy is a complex system, which needs to take into account all factors.

Currently, 14 sectors were selected at the microeconomic level, and the study of the circularity level is being underway in the respective sectors. As a result, a final document will be created, where the degree of circularity of Georgia’s economy will be determined, which will be the milestone for the development of the strategy. It will be important to implement pilot projects in the aforementioned process", said Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili.



The international expert in circular economy issues, Mr. Dariusz Edward Prasek spoke about Sweden's experience in the circularity area and presented " Circularity Gap Report 2022 Sweden".


The project ‘To Map Circular Economy in Georgia’ has been implemented through funding from the Government of Sweden to assess the current circularity level of the national economy
in close cooperation with the Government of Georgia. The project provides solutions for the following important tasks:


Assessing the circular economy in Georgia, identifying sector circular economy opportunities, mapping priority sectors for circular economy initiatives and sector-specific policy options, and developing recommendations for the Circular Economy Roadmap and Strategy of Georgia.


 The meeting was organized by the Georgian Society of Nature Explorers “Orchis” (GSNE “Orchis) in close cooperation with the Ministries of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Economy and Sustainable Development, Regional Development and Infrastructure, Education and Science, and with the financial support of the Swedish Government.

The Head of Development Cooperation /Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Sweden Mr. Erik Illes, the Chair of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee of the Parliament of Georgia Mrs. Maia Bitadze, the members of the Inter-Ministerial Coordination Board of the GoG engaged in the ‘’To Map Circular Economy in Georgia’’ Project, and other invited guests attended the session.
