The Draft Law of Georgia on "Industrial Emissions" was discussed at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture

The list of commitments set forth under the Draft Law of Georgia on "Industrial Emissions" has been discussed with the industrial sector representatives.

By the draft law, a new integrated permitting system will be introduced in the country to prevent, reduce and control emissions into the air, water and land caused by industrial activities. The project will also prevent waste generation.

The  Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili attended the meeting with the representatives of the industrial sector.

The Deputy Minister spoke about the need to introduce effective mechanisms and regulations for the prevention and reduction of environmental pollution from industrial activities, which is crucial in the adoption of European standards and improvement of the national legislation.

"The new Draft Law aims to fulfil obligations taken under the EU-Georgia Association Agreement and imposes obligations on large industrial enterprises to ensure the adoption of modern technologies to reduce environmental pollution. The respective draft law is planned to submit to the Parliament of Georgia in the autumn session, which will be followed by legislative debates. Moreover, it is necessary to discuss in depth all issues related to the draft law with the representatives of the business sector, also to get familiar with information about the possible difficulties which may arise in the adoption of innovations under the draft law", said Mrs. Tandilashvili.

The representatives of the companies working in the energy production, oil/petroleum products, processing of mineral raw materials (cement clinker production, lime brick production), also chemical industry and paper production sectors attended the meeting.
The workshops on the draft law of Georgia on " Industrial Emissions" will be further conducted with the representatives of various sectors of the industry on July 19, and 22.
