Issues for the Management of Chemical Substances to discuss at the meeting

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr Solomon Pavliashvili attended the thematic seminar, where issues related to the management of chemical substances have been discussed by parties.

Mr. Pavliashvili thanked the Czech Government and the Czech Development Agency for their support in creating and improving the legal framework for the management of chemical substances in the country. 

 

During the meeting, the Deputy underlined the importance of fulfilling obligations taken under the EU-Georgia Association Agreement, he spoke at length about the need to create a chemical substances management system and emphasized the importance of sharing experiences of partner countries.

The discussion touched upon a wide variety of issues, particular attention was paid to new obligations imposed on producers, importers, distributors, and consumers of chemical substances, principles of management of chemical substances, and competencies of state institutions.

The seminar was held under the framework of the project “Capacity Building for Sound Management of Chemicals – implementation of the regulation on classification, labelling and packaging of chemicals and mixtures, and registration, evaluation, authorization and restrictions of chemicals”, through the support of the Czech Development Agency.

The representatives of the Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Affairs, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development together with the Heads of relevant services and departments of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture attended the seminar, which was conducted jointly by Georgian and Czech experts.
