Otar Shamugia gets familiar with the peach harvesting and delivery process

The peach picking season is in active phase in the Kakheti region. The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Mr. Otar Shamugia, Chairman of the Agrarian Issues Committee Mrs. Nino Tsilosani and State Representative of Kakheti Region Mr. Irakli Shioshvili got acquainted with the peach post harvest handling and storage process in Gurjaani Municipality. 

The Minister took part in harvesting process, he picked peaches himself in the garden owned by Ilia Rakviashvili , also he got familiar with the crop storage related issues and activities taken in the cold storage facilitate owned by the entrepreneur Soso Gioshvili. The plant was created through state financial support. 

 " Several dozen cold storage facilities were financed by the state in the Kakheti region, which enabled to store crop in compliance with the modern standards and export it. As of today, approximately USD 12 million worth of products are exported  and this process is actively underway.  The incomes of farmers have increased approximately 4-5 times, than they had a few years ago", said the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Otar Shamugia.

Currently, more than 40 cold storage facilities created through state support programs are involved in the peach harvest delivering process in the Kakheti region.
