Otar Shamugia holds a meeting with the Heads of the wine-producing companies to discuss grape harvest related issues

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Mr. Otar Shamugia, Deputy Minister Mr. Yuri Nozadze and Chairman of the National Wine Agency Mr. Levan Mekhuzla met with the heads of wine-producing companies and discussed 2022 grape harvest-related issues.

 

As stated by Mr. Shamugia, all necessary decisions will be approved by the Government of Georgia to conduct the grape harvest in an organized manner. The interests of both grape growers and entrepreneurs will be protected in the grape harvest process.

 

"During the meeting, we discussed grape harvest-related challenges. Our main goal is to maintain the continuous development of the viticulture and winemaking field, and the dynamics of stable development. The state has a strategy to promote the viticulture and wine industry and is implementing several important support projects, it also provides financial and marketing support in the aforementioned field.

 

In 2022, the grape harvest should be conducted smoothly and successfully like in previous years, All grape growers will be able to sell their crops.

 

Despite the challenges facing the wine industry due to the difficult political situation in the region, I believe, that through joint efforts and cooperation between the state and the private sector, we will be able to achieve positive results soon", stated Mr. Otar Shamugia.

 

According to the Chairman of the National Wine Agency, Mr. Lean Mekhuzla, about 300 thousand tonnes of grapes are expected to be harvested this year. Up to 300 wine companies will receive and process grapes, and no grapes will be left behind. 



The quality of Georgian wine, as well as control mechanisms, have been discussed by parties, who mentioned issues regarding the cadastral system of vineyards, also a method of accounting during the harvest process and other mechanisms, which are developed by the state for ensuring the quality of the wine.
During the grape harvest 2022, the coordination headquarters will be opened and operated in the city of Telavi at the end of August and will work 24 hours a day,  like in previous years.
