Solomon Pavliashvili makes an opening remarks at the "Clean up the World - 2022" campaign event

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili made the opening and welcome remarks at the "Clean up the world - 2022" event.

"Supporting local environmental action to make a world of difference" is the new slogan of the international campaign "Clean up the world - 2022".

 

"As we are all aware, protecting and taking care of the environment is one of the top priorities for the state. The Waste Management Strategy, the National Waste Management Plan and the Extended Producer Responsibility are guidelines for protecting the environment from waste. Today's event is remarkable, as it serves to raise public awareness. The progress is visible, people’s attitudes towards environmental protection and care have changed which is the result of the effective cooperation of the state, donor organizations and the non-governmental sector", said Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili.

 

 According to Mrs. Nino Chchobadze, the Chairman of "Georgian Green Movement/Friends of the Earth - Georgia", the campaign "Clean up the world" is a joint successful project of the state, donors and the non-governmental sector.



It should be mentioned, that on September 16-18, within the framework of the campaign, cleaning activities will be held throughout the country.

The campaign "Clean up the world - 2022" is being implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Environmental Information and Education Center and the Solid Waste Management Company.

 

It should be mentioned, that the annual international cleanup campaign – “Clean Up the World!”  involves more than 133 countries. Georgia has been participating in the aforementioned campaign since 2010. Moreover, the “Clean Up the World” campaign is carried out in Georgia by non-governmental organizations "Georgian Green Movement/Friends of the Earth - Georgia", "Keep Georgia Tidy" (KGT), Georgian Society of Nature Explorers “Orchis’’, with the financial support of the Government of Sweden.

 

Ms. Khatuna Zaldastanishvili, environmental program manager at the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, representatives of relevant departments of the Ministry and other stakeholders attended the event held at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.
