Nino Tandilashvili attends the meeting held under the program "Reducing the Risk of Climate -Driven Disasters in Georgia"

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili attended the meeting held by the Steering Committee of the program "Reducing the risk of climate-driven disasters in Georgia".

The progress achieved within the program in January-June of 2022, and the plans to be implemented by the end of the year have been discussed by parties during the meeting.

 

Mrs. Tandilashvili noted that the aforementioned program aims to support Georgia in climate change adaptation, improve forecasting of natural disasters and provide timely information to citizens.

 

" Within the framework of the program, we purchased 139 meteorological and 15 agrometeorological stations, which will be placed gradually throughout the territory of Georgia. In addition, significant improvements are being made to technological systems, which will help meteorologists to improve the accuracy of weather forecasting in the coming years.

 

 Within the framework of the program, infrastructural works were carried out on separate rivers in Eastern and Western Georgia, which will protect the local population from expected floods. It should be mentioned, that the program includes the component of raising public awareness as well", said Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili.

The members of the Steering Board addressed the challenges and needs of the program to establish the centralized multi-hazard risk information and knowledge system.

 

UNDP and the Government of Georgia, with funding from the Green Climate Fund (GCF), Swiss and Swedish Governments are implementing the program dedicated to reducing the risk of climate-driven disasters in Georgia.

The Representatives of the Government of Georgia, and non-governmental and international organizations attended the meeting.
