Otar Shamugia: " Handling and storage for the largest part, about 222 thousand tonnes of grape have already been taken in the Kakheti region"
At the end of the Government session, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Otar Shamugia made remarks on the ongoing grape harvest and answered all questions posed by the media representatives.
As stated by the Minister, approximately 80% of the grape harvest has already been processed in the Kakheti region, as a result, grape growers received income amounting to GEL 230 million.
"The harvest is coming to an end in the Kakheti region. The handling and storage for the largest part, about 222 thousand tonnes of the grape have already taken. Moreover, up to 222 thousand tonnes of grapes were processed, out of which, up to 127 thousand tonnes are red, 82 thousand tonnes are Saperavi and about 5.3 thousand tonnes are Kakhuri Mtsvane grape varieties, and the remained part includes various varieties of grapes.

The harvesting process is carried out smoothly and in an organized manner. I would like to take the opportunity and thank all, coordination headquarters, local authorities and relevant services, who are involved in the harvest process", said Mr. Otar Shamugia.

It should be mentioned, the Government of Georgia made a decision to implement a subsidy program to support the 2022 grape harvest, specifically, the handling and storage of the entire crop. All companies that will purchase and process at least 100 tonnes of Rkatsiteli or Kakhuri Mtsvane grape varieties grown in the Kakheti region, will receive a subsidy and will be paid at least 90 tetri per kilogram of grapes during the harvest. The wine companies will receive a subsidy of GEL 0.35 per kg of Rkatsiteli and Kakhuri Mtsvane grape varieties.
