Upon the decision of the Government of Georgia, the subsidy program will be implemented to support the 2022 grape harvest in the Racha region

At the end of the Government session, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Otar Shamugia remarked on the grape harvest in the Racha-Lechkhumi region.

As stated by the Minister, upon the decision of the Government of Georgia, to support the 2022 grape harvest, the subsidy program will be implemented in the Racha region as well.

"Our goal is to support winegrowers not to face problems in post-harvest handling and storage of their grape crop in the Racha-Lechkhumi region and ensure that farmers receive an appropriate price for their produce.
The involvement of the private sector in the harvesting process is also crucial, we should give more incentives to private enterprises and enable them to purchase the whole grape crop grown in the Racha-Lechkhumi region, and minimize the state's involvement in this process.

Upon the decision of the Government of Georgia, all companies that purchase and process at least 3 tonnes of Alexandrouli and Mujuretuli grape varieties grown in the Khvanchkara microzone will receive a subsidy and will pay the viticulturist at least 7 GEL.
The amount of subsidy is GEL 4 per kg for both Alexandrouli and Mujuretuli grape varieties. The harvest will be conducted in an organized manner and will be successful in both Kakheti and Racha-Lechkhumi regions ", said Mr. Otar Shamugia.

It should be mentioned, that the grape harvest season will start in the first half of October, and about 30 companies will be involved in the harvesting process in the Racha region. The grape harvest forecast for  Alexandrouli and Mujuretuli varieties is within 1500-1700 tonnes. The coordination centre (headquarter)  will operate in the city of Ambrolauri to conduct the grape harvest 2022 in an organized manner. Additional information can be obtained on the hotline - 1501.
