Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Otar Shamugia meets the Regional Coordinator for Europe of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), Mahir Aliyev

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Mr. Otar Shamugia met with the Regional Coordinator for Europe of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), Mr. Mahir Aliyev.

The priority directions, as well as the implementation of current and future projects within the framework of bilateral cooperation between the Ministry and UNEP, have been discussed by the parties during the meeting.

The Minister emphasized the importance of the active involvement of international and donor organizations in introducing environmental standards, also tackling and mitigating climate change in the country.

Mr. Otar Shamugia spoke extensively about the support provided by the UNEP in the implementation of the project ‘’Supporting Restoration, Production of Georgian endemic Wheat species and Meskhetian vine’’.


Mr. Mahir Aliyev underlined the importance of public involvement, as well as raising public awareness in the implementation of sustainable public procurement (SPP) approaches and regulations in Georgia under the framework of the EU4Environment program, he also expressed his desire to share his experience in the process of the implementation of the National Waste Management  Strategy and Action Plan (2022-2026).


The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili, the Director of Environmental Information and Education Centre Mrs. Tamar Aladashvili and the representatives of relevant agencies included within the system of the Ministry attended the meeting.
