Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Solomon Pavliashvili made opening remarks at the national meeting dedicated to the mapping of circularity level in Georgia.

Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili expressed his gratitude to the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency for its financial support and emphasized the importance of the circularity assessment report of Georgia prepared within the framework of the project.


 

"The circularity assessment report is a guiding document elaborated for the development of the circular economy in the country. The circular economy is a high standard of waste management. Our goal is to promote the sustainable management of waste in the country and thereby mitigate climate change," said Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili.


 

The Deputy Head of the Swedish Embassy, Mr. Erik Illes emphasized the importance of the circularity assessment report for the country and highlighted opportunities for sustainable development of waste management in Georgia.

 

"The development of the circular economy has great potential in Georgia. Two years of intensive work resulted in the elaboration of an important document for circular economy development. By developing the aforementioned report, the country has taken another step closer to European standards", said Mr. Erik Illes.

 

It should be mentioned, that 13 highly qualified experts from different sectors of the economy have been working on the circularity assessment report of Georgia for two years. Fourteen sectors were evaluated in the assessment report, which includes a description of material flows, losses, waste, and the share of recycled waste, also an assessment of the possibility of recycling waste.

 

Within the framework of the Interagency Commission of the Government of Georgia, the experts working in relevant Ministries and Government agencies participated in the development /elaboration of the circularity assessment report.

 

The meeting was organized by the Georgian Society of Nature Explorers “Orchis” (GSNE “Orchis) in close cooperation with the Ministries of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Economy and Sustainable Development, Regional Development and Infrastructure, Education and Science, and with the financial support of the Swedish Government 

 

The representatives of the Parliament of Georgia, relevant Ministries, private and non-governmental sectors, and different stakeholders attended the session.
