The package of legislative changes on the Management of Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) was presented at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture

The legislative package on the Management of Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) envisages the processing and management of hazardous oils and is being implemented within the framework of the Project "PCB-Free Electricity Supply in Georgia", 

 

The working meeting was chaired by the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili, who spoke extensively about hazardous waste management-related issues. During the meeting, the Deputy emphasized the importance of fulfilling obligations under the EU-Georgia Association Agreement.

 

"It should be mentioned, that our working meetings, as well as exchanging and sharing opinions with the representatives of the relevant sector are held on a regular basis until the legislative changes are approved by the Government of Georgia. As we are all aware,  environmental protection is one of the top priority areas for the state, therefore,  effective management of hazardous substances, specifically, the management of transformer oils is of the utmost importance ", said Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili.

 

The respective project is implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, with the support of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Caucasus Regional Environmental Center, and the Global Environmental Fund.


The Heads of the relevant departments of the Ministry, representatives of "Georgian Railway", "Georgian State Electric System", "Energo-Pro Georgia" companies, and other stakeholders attended the meeting.
