Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Otar Shamugia meets the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria to Georgia, Veselin Valkano

The cooperation in the fields of water resources management, also strengthening laboratory capabilities in the food safety, veterinary and plant protection fields of Georgia have been discussed by the parties during the meeting.

 

As stated by the Minister, the project on strengthening laboratory capacities in the phytosanitary field of Georgia is launched with the support of the European Union and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, noting, that the involvement of Bulgarian experts in the implementation of the project will be crucial, as long as the respective project aims to increase the competitiveness of Georgian farmers and enables access to the EU market.

The parties also emphasized the deepening of trade relations between the two countries as a priority area. It was mentioned that the export of agricultural products from Georgia is annually increasing, and the annual growth rates of honey production and export is quite high as well.

 Mr. Veselin Valkanov noted that Bulgaria unwaveringly supports Georgia on its way to European integration. The importance of the support of partner donor organizations in the aforementioned process was also underlined during the meeting.

At the end of the meeting, the Minister wished success to the new Ambassador of Bulgaria in his diplomatic activities in Georgia.
Mr. George Khanishvili, the First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili, and the Deputy Ambassador of Bulgaria Mr. Ilia Nachevi attended the meeting.
