Otar Shamugia meets the members of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Georgia

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Mr. Otar Shamugia met with the members of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Georgia.

 

The key issues in the agricultural field in Georgia, current projects and achievements, as well as challenges in the specific areas have been discussed by parties during the meeting.

 

Mr. Shamugia mentioned, that agricultural and sectoral development is impossible without scientific research and analysis, emphasizing, that active cooperation between the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Georgia is crucial.

"The active involvement of our scientists and the effective use of their resources in the country’s agricultural development is of the utmost importance. The members of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Georgia are making a significant contribution to the development of the agricultural sector of Georgia throughout the years. We cooperate with the Academy of Agricultural Sciences and scientific circles and we will determine the scheme to involve them in specific projects of the Ministry"  Mr. Otar Shamugia said. 

The sides discussed a wide range of issues regarding land consolidation and balance, land irrigation and food security, production of citrus and its concentrate, development of grain crops, animal husbandry, subsidies, mechanization, hazardous waste management etc.  
The President of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Georgia, Mr. Guram Aleksidze, noted that, within the framework of the Memorandum of Cooperation, the Academy of Sciences will continue active cooperation with the Ministry in different areas. 

Making well-balanced decisions will help to develop the rural and agricultural fields in the country on the one hand, and on the other hand, it will strengthen adjacent sectors, which will be ultimately reflected in the country's economy.

The First Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture Mr. George Khanishvili, Deputy Minister Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili and representatives of relevant departments of the Ministry attended the meeting at the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Georgia.
