Solomon Pavliashvili attends the seminar on the revision of the Draft Law "On Chemical Substances and Mixtures"

The seminar on the revision of the Draft Law "On Chemical Substances and Mixtures" was held within the framework of the project " Capacity Building for Sound Management of Chemicals", which is implemented with the financial support of the Czech Development Agency. The representatives of state agencies and private sector involved in the management of chemical substances reviewed the working draft document.

Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture attended the seminar.

As stated by the Deputy Minister, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture is implementing the project " Capacity Building for Sound Management of Chemicals" with the financial assistance of the Czech Development Agency (CzDA), in cooperation with the companies - DEKONTA and MEDYSTIL.  The project aims to bring the management of chemical substances at a standard international level in line with EU rules, development of national legislation and capacity building at the national level.

"International experience shows that the effective management of chemical substances is quite  hard , time-consuming and long lasting process, which requires the creation of a management system that will be in line with the similar systems of the most developed countries around the world. The sharing of Czech experience and knowledge will play an important role in promoting the creation of an effective chemical management system in the country. I hope that by joint efforts, we will be able to do more in the management  of chemical substances and achieve significant progress in the environmental protection as well as in the implementation of sustainable development goals", said Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili.

The New Code on Chemicals and Mixtures brings the Regulation (EC) - Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) and Classification, Labeling and Packaging (CLP) of chemicals and mixtures enforceable by the law.

Czech experts in the field of management of chemical substances headed the seminar, which was attended by 30 state officials, representatives of the Government of Georgia, relevant state agencies, non-governmental organizations, private sector involved in the management of chemical substances and business ombudsmen.
