George Khanishvili delivers opening remarks at the project "Global Quality and Standards Program in Georgia" (GQSP-Georgia) conclusion meeting

The First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. George Khanishvili delivered opening remarks at the project "Global Quality and Standards Program in Georgia" (GQSP-Georgia) conclusion meeting. The respective project is being implemented with the technical support of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the financial assistance of the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO). 

 

"The development of the laboratory network is crucial for improving the production quality in manufacturing  and increasing the export of Georgian products. The activities carried out within the project will give us the opportunity to further develop the laboratory system. The Georgian entrepreneur will be provided with the opportunity to receive comprehensive laboratory services. I would like to underline once again the success of the implemented project and thank the initiators of the project, donors and all involved parties who were able to establish the respective system. We need to prove, that Georgia can produce quality products, adopt a full chain control system and at the same time deliver healthy Georgian food products worldwide" said Mr. Khanishvili.



During the event, the participants summed up the activities implemented within the project, the conversation touched upon the future plans as well; The parties also got acquainted with the strategic roadmap for sustainable laboratory infrastructure development in Georgia, which was created within the framework of the aforementioned project. The roadmap covers all the issues and challenges faced by the laboratories today.

The respective roadmap plays a crucial role in promoting the development of a common policy for the Ministry, and for the private laboratories as well.

The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture is focused on strengthening the sector associations, also accurately determining future development plans, identifying core strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities by promoting state programs.


The representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Agencies within the system of the Ministry, the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Association of Georgian Laboratories (GeLab) and the pharmaceutical sector attended the meeting.
