The Steering Committee of the "Rural and Agriculture Development Project" held a meeting at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture

The  First Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture  Mr. George Khanishvili chaired the meeting.

Mr. Khanishvili stressed the importance of the partnership between FAO and the Ministry and thanked FAO Representative for the efficient collaboration.

 

The Members of the Steering Committee presented a report on the activities performed in 2022 within the framework of the project. The sides discussed the working version of the policy document, which embraces the main results and recommendations of the integrated rural development approach and emphasized the importance of inclusive rural development in the country.

It should be mentioned that the "Agriculture and Rural Development Project" aims to improve agricultural sector competitiveness, increase food production, and reduce poverty and social inequality in rural areas. Moreover, the mentioned project contributed to the implementation of the Agriculture Development Strategy 2015-2020 and the Rural Development Strategy 2017-2022 by piloting various approaches and making small grant investments.

 

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is implementing the project in Georgia with financial assistance from the Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC).


The Head of the relevant service of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Beka Dzadzamia, the manager of the Austrian Development Cooperation's rural development program, project representatives and other stakeholders attended the meeting.
