Nino Tandilashvili attended the public discussion on the " National Aquaculture Development Strategy of Georgia".

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili attended the public discussion on the " National Aquaculture Development Strategy of Georgia".

The purpose of the meeting was to provide stakeholders with the aquaculture development strategy and seek expert advice and consultations before drafting the final version of the policy document.
The parties emphasized the involvement of international experts who shared their experiences and collaborated effectively with stakeholders in developing the mentioned policy document.

"We started developing the aquaculture strategy document, which includes a detailed analysis of the challenges faced by the sector,  key directions that require us to actively collaborate with the private sector and associations, and areas where state engagement/support might be crucial for further development of the sector.

It is essential to have the support of the European Union, which is our biggest partner, and always supports us, especially in the food safety and rural development fields. Moreover, the European Union assists us in developing the aquaculture sector," said Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.

The public debate was held as part of the EU-supported ENPARD IV project, with the engagement of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO).

"The aquaculture sector in Georgia has a real potential to create and take advantage of more economic opportunities. I am glad we are taking the final step in developing the strategy.  Furthermore, the implementation of this critical policy document will enable Georgia to use its potential and transform the aquaculture sector, and create new ways for economic development in the villages, with the main focus on inclusiveness and environmental and social sustainability," said FAO Program Coordinator, Javier Sanz Alvarez.

During the working process, the participants expressed their opinions and gave recommendations, which will be included in the final document.
