Announcing the winners of the "Clean Region - 2022" contest

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili attended the award ceremony of the contest "Clean Region - 2022".

 

Within the project "Keep Georgia Tidy", the competition "Clean Region 2022" was announced on June 7, 2022. The mentioned contest aims to promote public involvement in clean-up campaigns.

 

‘’The Clean Region -2022’’ competition has been running since 2015 in Georgia, and the number of candidates and nominations is annually increasing. The active involvement of the public contributes to the development of a modern waste management system in the country and raising awareness through public outreach campaigns’’-stated Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili.

The winners of the 2022 contest are: 
Clean Region - Mtskheta-Mtianeti
Clean Municipality - Lagodekhi
Clean City - Zugdidi
Clean Village - Chakvinji in Zugdidi, Lesichine in Chkhorotsku
Beautiful Yard - Kakha Turava's yard in Zugdidi and Akaki Jejelava's yard in Martvili
Beautiful Balcony - Seventeen Rooms Hotel in Telavi
Beautiful Yard of the Enterprise - Shumi's yard of winemaking in Telavi
Clean/Beautiful Street - Kostava Street in Rustavi
Blue Stream - Chikhura in Sachkhere

 

According to Mrs. Nino Chchobadze, Chair of "Georgian Green Movement/Friends of the Earth - Georgia", it is essential that the contest 
sums up key achievements within a year regarding cleaning all municipalities, towns, and regions.

 

"This year revealed a new region and municipality as the winner. Everyone wants to be the first, therefore, the competition is getting fierce. This year's nominations are outstanding and highly competitive. I believe we will have even more interesting results next year," Mrs. Nino Chchobadze said.


 

The. Ambassador of Sweden to Georgia, Mr. Ulrik Tideström, Head of Swedish Development Cooperation, Mr. Erik Illes, representatives of the diplomatic corps, and members of the NGO Project "Keep Georgia Tidy "  participated in the award ceremony.


“It is crucial to keep Georgia’s excellent environment clean and involve the public in the green transition process. There is a healthy competition between the regions in the process of creating a clean environment,” said Mr, Eric Illes.

 

The organizers of the project "Keep Georgia Tidy" are the non-governmental organizations: ''Greens Movement of Georgia''/''Friends of the Earth Georgia'', ''Keep Georgia Tidy'', and Georgian Society of Nature Explorers ''Orchis''.

 

The project is being implemented with the cooperation of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, the Environmental Information and Education Center, the Solid Waste Management Company of Georgia, and the support of the Swedish government.
