Statement of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.

The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture explains that the main priority for the state is not to increase bread prices. Any decision that will be taken to support wheat farmers and retailers will be based on maintaining the dynamics of bread prices.
Meanwhile, the wheat farmers must sell the harvested crop and receive income.

In terms of the market price of wheat, a few months ago, the price of wheat in the local market was high; nevertheless, harvest sellers expected rising prices. Therefore, they did not sell the products. Wheat prices are currently much lower due to an unprecedentedly abundant harvest in the top-producing countries on the global market.

Wheat farmers and sellers do not sell their products because the current price is unacceptable and too low for them.

According to the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture, the Ministry regularly holds meetings with wheat producers, members of associations of wheat farmers, growers, and representatives of mill companies.

A decision was made to lift the restriction on wheat export to encourage the selling of Georgian wheat.
Currently, the Ministry is working on a plan for extra steps to ensure that farmers can harvest and sell the new crop as easily as possible.

In addition, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture explains that Georgia imports flour, which is much cheaper than wheat. The import of cheap flour provides the population with cheap bread and bakery products.
