Nino Tandilashvili hosted the Ambassador of Finland to South Caucasus, Kirsti Narinen.

The First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Finland to the South Caucasus, Mrs. Kirsti Narinen.

During the meeting, the parties addressed potential cooperation in the fields of environmental protection, specifically sustainable management of water resources. The conversation also touched upon the agricultural areas and wine export.

"In recent years, Georgia has started carrying out several reforms in the environmental protection field, following the obligations taken under the EU-Georgia Association Agreement, among them is the development of the draft law on water resources management, as one of the most important issues. After the adoption of the mentioned law, several new standards will be introduced, which will improve the water resources management system in the country. Reforms, new regulations, and standards require appropriate human resources – field specialists and experts, which is one of the crucial challenges for Georgia. Accordingly, the support and expert assistance of Finland, as a  country with great experience in the said process, will be critical for us", said Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili.

According to the Ambassador of the Republic of Finland to the South Caucasus, the active implementation of environmental reforms in Finland started in the 70s of the previous century.

"Sustainable management of water resources is highly developed in Finland. An international water strategy has been developed, based on the Finnish concept of "water diplomacy", which aims to promote the development of the CROSSWATER (integrated water management system in border areas) system. We are ready to share our experience and expertise in this direction with Georgia," said Mrs. Kirsti Narinen.

The parties also addressed the possibility of exporting Georgian wine. As mentioned, a large-scale international wine and food exhibition is held annually in Finland, which may serve as an essential platform for Georgian wine producers looking for partners and exporting to the Finnish market.
