A new state program launches in Georgia to promote entrepreneurial activity in highland settlements.

After the session of the Government of Georgia, Mr. Otar Shamugia briefed the media representatives on the target program promoting entrepreneurial activity in highland settlements.

According to the Minister, the new program aims to promote the development of the private sector, create new jobs, and improve the socio-economic conditions of residents living in the highland areas, where economic activity is relatively low.

The program will be implemented in the settlements determined by the Resolution of the Government of Georgia on the approval of the list of high mountainous settlements.

The mentioned program provides financing in agricultural and non-agricultural areas. The program ensures financial support to storage and processing enterprises, wineries, small family hotels, catering companies, and innovative /profitable business ideas. However, the program includes several exclusions, such as construction activities, development activities, shopping facilities, and transportation services. Production of primary agricultural products is also an exception since this direction is financed within the various state programs and is available to everyone.

The new program will provide a significant incentive for initiating various activities in highland settlements, including the involvement of young people; who will receive an additional 10% co-financing. The program will support the employment of the local population and improve their social conditions", said Mr. Otar Shamugia.

Within the program, co-financing for one potential beneficiary is no less than GEL 30,000, not more than GEL 100,000, and not more than 50% of the overall cost of the presented project. Young entrepreneurs and agricultural cooperatives will receive an additional 10% benefit. At the moment of application, the project's total cost should not exceed GEL 500,000.

The program's budget is determined for GEL 5 million at this stage. The Rural Development Agency will start accepting applications in the second half of June.
