Nino Tandilashvili briefed the members of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee of the Parliament of Georgia on the air protection monitoring results obtained from the companies operating in the city of Rustavi.

Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, briefed the members of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee of the Parliament of Georgia on the air protection monitoring results of the companies fulfilling environmental obligations in the field of ambient air protection;

The action plan of the city of Rustavi aimed at reducing emissions from the industrial sector; Overall, 87% of plan activities were completed.

The measures included legislative amendments adopted in 2021, aiming to prevent and reduce environmental pollution from the industrial sector and improve production process supervision through adopting continuous instrumental self-monitoring emissions systems.

Currently, 26 enterprises are subject to continuous instrumental self-monitoring in Rustavi. Out of fifteen operating companies, twelve have already registered their self-monitoring tools in the electronic system of the Ministry, while three companies are going through installation/testing.
In 2020-2022, the Department of Environmental Supervision employees conducted 165 inspections of 108 regulatory objects in Rustavi.

Thirty-five administrative letters were sent to 27 objects to eradicate the identified violations, and specific corrective actions were defined with appropriate deadlines.

Twenty-two administrative offense protocols were issued for 18 companies failing to perform the self-monitoring. The department temporarily restricted activities to 5 facilities in the city of Rustavi.
"The Ministry does not strive to impose penalties on enterprises, but to achieve the main goal, specifically, to ensure a clean and safe environment for the citizens of Georgia, including the employees of the mentioned enterprise."

The Ministry has actively cooperated with the business sector for the last three years. Several informational meetings and discussions were organized, and an interactive plan for implementing self-monitoring systems was developed, which was monitored by the Ministry.
We continue this process today, ensuring the adopted legislative amendments are fully implemented. We welcome the readiness from the business sector, reflected in setting up a relevant infrastructure and organizing environmental documentation," Mrs. Nino Tandilashvili stated.
According to the First Deputy, the reduction of pollution from the industrial sector will be one of the main directions of the mid-term (2023-2025) air quality management plan for the central zone; specifically, the number of inspections of enterprises will further increase, at least, 200 inspections will be conducted in the central zone per year.

Those activities subject to environmental technical regulations, representing a significant source of pollution, will be identified, and specific, mandatory actions will be determined for them to reduce pollution with solid particles.
Furthermore, the enforcement of previously adopted regulations will continue.

The Mayor of the city of Rustavi and representatives of the civil and non-governmental sectors attended the meeting.
