Georgia becomes the member of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Council for the first time.

Georgia was elected as a member of the Council of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for two years (from July 7, 2023 to June 30, 2025). The decision was made about Georgia during the 43rd FAO conference. The Conference was held in Rome on July 1-7, 2023.

 

The Council of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) consists of 49 member nations elected once in two years during the Conference.

 

The Council acts as an executive organ within the power delegated to it by the Conference. In particular, it exercises functions dealing with the world food and agriculture situation and related matters, current and prospective activities of the Organization, including its Programme of Work and Budget, administrative matters, financial management of the Organization, and constitutional matters.
