Otar Shamugia: The satellite photos once again confirm the assessments made in the first report of the National Environmental Agency

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Otar Shamugia, spoke about the additional materials proving the causes of the natural disaster in Shovi.

"First and foremost, I would like to express my deep sorrow over the terrible tragedy that occurred on August 3 in Shovi and to express my condolences to the family, relatives, and the entire state of Georgia."

There is a great deal of public interest in topics concerning the development of natural disasters. The National Environmental Agency released the preliminary findings and conclusion addressing the causes and scope of the disaster a few days ago. The conclusion describes the time when the events took place.

Specialists are still intensively working on additional details. Two days ago, we received high-quality satellite images that confirm the assessments made in the National Environmental Agency's initial report.

In particular, a photo taken on August 3, sometime before the disaster, clearly shows that no change has occurred. We have heard for several days that there was an accumulation of water, which is inaccurate and confirmed by the mentioned photo.

The second photo, which was taken after the disaster, confirmed how the processes developed, that the disaster started with the collapse of the rock avalanche and then with the breaking of the glacier. We are talking about a relatively large area followed by further processes. Due to the high interest, we will present the details and analysis of the photos to the public today," said Otar Shamugia
