Current aquaculture field-related challenges and prospects were discussed at the working meeting.

The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia and the Ministry of Agriculture of Adjara organized a working meeting with the fish-producing farmers in Kobuleti to discuss the current aquaculture field-related challenges and prospects.

The meeting was held under the initiative of the Aquaculture Development Association "Foreji" within the framework of cooperation between the Civil Committee and the Inter-Agency Coordination Council for Agriculture and Rural Development.
Mr. Tengiz Nasaridze, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, and Mr. Zaza Shavadze, Minister of Agriculture of the Adjara region, attended the meeting.

"One of our top priorities is the development of the aquaculture field and the promotion of aquaculture-related activities in the country. We have already adopted the law on aquaculture and developed a normative base that will contribute to the effective development of the sector. The country has resources for developing aquaculture in freshwater and marine space. Moreover, aquaculture can play an important role in ensuring food security and self-sufficiency in the country, besides it has good export potential," said Mr. Tengiz Nasaridze.

According to the Minister of Agriculture of Adjara, Mr. Zaza Shavadze, active communication between state agencies and farmers is crucial for identifying the needs in the aquacultural area and determining the potential and developing effective measures to overcome existing challenges. This will make a substantial contribution to the sustainable development of aquaculture in the country.

During the meeting, the parties focused on the legislative innovations in the field, including the prospects and challenges of aquaculture development.
The conversation touched upon the significance of active collaboration among all parties (state, private sector, and business) and creating a cohesive vision to ensure the sustainable development of the aquaculture sector in the country.

As mentioned, Georgia's aquaculture sector has significant development potential, which should be used to the greatest extent possible to stimulate the rapid development of the industry and economic activity.
The representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, the Ministry of Agriculture of Adjara, and the representatives of industry associations and fish farmers of the region attended the meeting.
